Life Education are a nationwide educational charitable organisation, with 32 different regional trusts operating across the country. We are The Heartland Otago Southland Trust who operate through the "heartland" of Otago and Southland - Makarora to Milton, Glenorchy to Gore, Mosgiel and the Maniototo.
We use Harold the giraffe as a mascot to teach primary and intermediate school aged children about respect for themselves and others, the value of leading a healthy life, and how our bodies work. The Life Education program is a valuable aid in helping our children to become good people and citizens of our communities, along with learning strategies to cope with the pressures that life presents.
As a snapshot of the work that our Educator (Pip), and Harold, do in our region - last year the Classroom visited 51 schools in our Trust’s area In round figures, our Educator delivered lessons to approximately 8,200 children in that period.
The Vision of Life Education is to enable children to reach their full potential. We aim to reach every primary school child in our area with the purpose of educating and inspiring generations to embrace positive choices for a healthy mind and body - BUT we need your help to do this!!
It costs over $150,000 per year for the Heartland Trust to provide its valuable services. With no Government funding, it is vital that the community served by Life Education helps us to deliver the program. To continue to deliver our exceptional experiences, we need your support to remain relevant, while also extending our reach to impact even more children.
We are extremely grateful to all our major and supporting funders.

Trucking companies
We also truly appreciate the valuable support of trucking companies in the ‘Heartland’ area who shift the classroom from school to school voluntarily for us.
Life Education Trust is all about helping our children to grow up with good self-esteem, respect for themselves and others, and maintain a healthy body by making healthy choices. Life Education is totally community funded. The cost of operating the mobile classroom and delivering the Life Education programmes to the primary and intermediate schools in the ‘Heartland’ region is high. That is why we need your help.
We would like to invite you to join the Life Education experience and be part of something truly special. By contributing $400 a year ($33.33 a month) you can become part of our Harold Club. Our aim is to encourage people or businesses to make a regular contribution to the Harold Club and in doing so, ensure some sustainable funds to contribute to the operating costs of our Life Education Trust. You can be confident that all monies received remain in the Heartland Otago Southland Trust.
What can you expect in return?
